Our current block is for curriculum units and consists of science and writing. ![]() I use a large block system for our afternoon topics. You teach a single subject consistently for a period, then when that period is over or the curriculum unit is finished, you stop and move to a different subject. The large time blocking system is similar to a semester framework. One is where people block specific time frames in a day (somewhat rigid) - the other is where you block large time frames (weeks, months, seasons, etc.) for specific teaching themes or curriculum. Its charging saucer can be connected to a USB port and actually doubles as a wireless phone charger, which is convenient. Instead, it’s designed to stay at 130 degrees at all times. There’s no app to control it, however, and no way to customize the temperature. With its curvy pear-shape, the Kopi mug has a more design-y and attractive look than the Ember and comes in pretty shades like “fresh mint” and “cupcake pink” that’ll certainly brighten up your desktop. It can be charged directly on its USB-powered charging pad, or you can remove the battery and charge it separately. TL DR: Muggo is an effective self-warming travel tumbler with an easy-to-use interface and accurate temperature settings from 95 to 150 degrees. Once it cooled down to the set temperature, it stayed there for over an hour. In my testing, Muggo performed fairly similarly to the Ember mug. The charging pad can keep the mug charged while you’re sitting at your desk, and also charge up the battery for when it’s time to go. Instead of sitting on a charging saucer, Muggo has a removable battery that magnetically attaches to a charging pad. ![]() (The tumbler also displays the current temperature at all times.) The spring-loaded lid pops up and down with a single press, so it’s easy to drink from on the go, too. Time in temperature range: 1 hour, 15 minutesĪlthough it doesn’t have an app like Ember, the Muggo tumbler is very easy to control, as you can adjust the temperature in five-degree intervals from 95 to 150 degrees by pressing right on the LED display on the tumbler itself. Although I did not test it, Ember also makes a travel tumbler with similar features, if that’s more appealing to you. The only downside is there’s no USB charger. TL DR: Ember is a sleek, app-controlled mug that will keep your beverage at a set temperature anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees and it’s mostly accurate based on my testing. My slightly more scientific testing proved it be even more effective: It stayed within seven degrees of the set temperature for 95 minutes. ![]() The saucer charger has to be plugged into an actual outlet which isn’t always the most convenient.ĭuring casual use I set the Ember mug to 140 degrees (which, thanks to all these temperature measuring gadgets, I recently discovered is my preferred tea temperature) and found that it stayed around there until I finished my tea around an hour later. The only not-so-modern thing about Ember is that there’s no USB charging cord. ![]() You’ll also get notifications once the mug has reached your desired temperature and when it needs to be charged. That may sound gimmicky but it is actually pretty useful: On the app, you can set your desired temperature (anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees in single-degree intervals, the most specific control of any mug) and view the current temperature of your drink. It’s the only warming mug I tested that uses an app, connected via Bluetooth. In all-white with a matching saucer charger (it’s also available in black and metallic copper), the Ember mug is the most sleek and streamlined of the bunch. Time in temperature range: 1 hour, 35 minutes By comparison, a regular mug only stayed in that exact range for around five minutes I’ve also noted how long each mug held a temperature from 125 to 135 degrees. All of the mugs but the Ember have a lid, so I tested them without the lids on to control for that. The product description explains it should stay at around 140 degrees “for hours.” To compare them all accurately, I set the Ember and Muggo to 130 degrees. The Burnout also doesn’t allow for temperature control, but that’s not a surprise, because it’s not electric. Two of the mugs I tested, Ember and Muggo, allow for precise temperature control, while the OHOM Kopi is designed to stay at 130-degrees. To add in a “control” factor, I also tested a regular ceramic mug as well as a stainless-steel Yeti tumbler. Then, after a few days of trying each, I moved to a slightly more scientific testing method, pouring boiling water into each mug and then checking the temperature with a meat thermometer at five-minute intervals for two hours. At this point, I am ready to drink it, not wait even longer.Īt first, I used them casually for my daily tea, just to get a sense of how they worked and how well they maintained their temperatures. While I could go through the process of boiling more water, that would also involve waiting for it - and waiting for it to cool back down. By then, my once-steaming mug is usually closer to lukewarm. Although the first step in my work-from-home morning routine is pouring myself a cup of tea, I don’t often get around to drinking that tea until I’ve made breakfast, checked emails, responded to any urgent emails, and gotten distracted chatting with co-workers on Slack. ![]() 8/19/2023 0 Comments Eggplant stacks no breadcrumbs![]() ![]() It's easier to make because there are fewer ingredients, and easier to clean up because there is no flour/breadcrumb and egg station to clean up. Most portable generator cables and connectors come with plugs containing color codes. Now that the wires are ready to be socketed into the plug’s holes, take note of the label and color code on each one. Slot the wires into the right holes on the plug, then screw them in place. You have to use a crimping tool if you decide to go down that route. Not only will ferrules make it easier for you to screw each wire in place later, but they also help in reducing fraying and minimizing electrocution risk. I recommend doing the latter.Įven better if you twist each end nice and tight first, then use the ferrules. Insert the wire using the correct guide for 6-gauge wires.įrom here, you can either twist the exposed wires to make them as compact and close-knit as possible or use ferrules to house them. Strip each wire using automatic wire strippers, then put a ferrule on each end.Īutomatic wire strippers will get this done for you in seconds and in a single cutting action, so I recommend you use them for this purpose. This is why I highly suggest you refer to the manual before cutting off the insulation. Some may call for only ½ inch to be stripped, after all. However, it’s always best to follow the wire manufacturer’s instructions in this regard. The general recommendation for wire stripping is 1 inch. Now that the wires are free, you may need to cut off a short section of their coverings. Cut off the unneeded threads, then refer to the manual to know how much insulation you need to cut off from each wire. Stop once you can pull the cut part of the insulation off. Clamp the cable cutter on the spot, then rotate it a few times until you feel the insulation slowly coming off. Measure and mark the spot where you will be making the cut on the cable with a marker. To make sure you don’t end up cutting the precious internal wires, I recommend using a cable cutter. You have to access the four wires inside, so strip 1 ½ inch of the black insulation. Remove 1 ½ inch of the cable’s outer insulation at its end. If you’re using a plug with no clamp and just a sleeve that you can pull off, just make sure to buy a cable that will fit the male and female plugs’ respective bases. Doing so will loosen the cover, so the generator power cable can slide in. You have to unscrew two screws attaching the plug to the cover. Separate the female plug from its base or cover shell, then slide the 6-gauge cable into its opening.Ī standard female 50 amp plug for the generator comes connected to a base or black shell cover. 8/18/2023 0 Comments Controllermate midi controller![]() Then we place this whole expression in brackets and subtract 1, ie. Now the maths is applied (restrict 0,127 to 0,1 then multiply by two and take away one) by placing the restricted value 0,1 inside brackets, which is then multiplied by 2, ie. Look up the MIDI chart for the device or better still, get the editing software for it and change them all to the cc# you choose if you so desire although you're better off sticking to defaults for now. But pure experimentation is a lottery, with slightly better odds, and a waste of time. The cc# could be 3 or 4 etc depending on the device. The function, 2 takes the midi value of cc2 between 0, 127 and divides it by 127 to give a new value between 0,1. Check the MIDI implementation chart for your MIDI device to find the control change number (cc#) for the slider you want to assign. 2 is the variable for the slider control input you want to attach to the virtual joystick output. would be further axes you could setup as outputs from GlovePIE. the x axis.Īnalog1 would be the second controllable axis, ie. later if you have more hardware.Īnalog0 is the first controllable axis on the 'stick, ie. This "device", the virtual port, is what your game or program will see when you attempt to change default control settings in your game/prog. PPJoy1.Analog0 is the variable that gets sent to the PPJoy virtual joystick port that we have running in the background (you did install it right?). Now you see how to do it mathematically, we have to make a very simple script in GlovePIE in order to link the device to the game or program.Īny other axes you make are going to look just like this so let's understand the syntax. 1 is now the absolute minimum value of the slider and +1 is now the maximum.Īll from a 0 to 127 slider! Love tech. This final output range is exactly what we're after because joystick axes output values between -1 and 1. Now we need to shift this range of values negatively by one, in other words subtract one unit from everything in the range zero to two (0,2) which gives the final range we're after. If we multiply this new value by two we now get an increased output range of values from 0,2. ![]() So, this value that we get from the MIDI controller is a value between 0,1. Now we need negative values as well if we're making an axis like on a joystick (range = -1, 0, 1) Glovepie converts the input by dividing by 127 so that 0 becomes 0 and 127 becomes 1. Input range = 0,127 Fader or slider on the MIDI deviceĭivide input value by 127. Glovepie then automatically converts a 0,127 input range to a 0,1 output range, a value between zero and one unit. So to make a value of 0, 127 into a value -1, 1 we need to set the input variable in GlovePIE to the MIDI type. This means negative values are also needed. This means only postive values up to 127, or zero, can be outputted.Īn axis however, like the joystick x or joystick y axes, sends values between -1 and 1 passing through 0. Ok this is tricky for some, I'll try and KISS it (keep it simple, stupid).Įach MIDI fader or pot sends a range of data between the values of 0 and 127 (in decimal). All you need to do is plugin you MIDI device first, then fire up GlovePIE and start a new script. GlovePIE installed using default settings. This gives you a virtual joystick port that your game or program should be able to see. This will cost you $15, though, if you roll with Mac, this is probably insignificant. In my case I had the software that came with the device, the Kontrol Editor, which lets you view and change the cc# of everything on the device.ĬontrollerMate for Mac OSX will perform the same functions as GlovePIE for PC. The device's MIDI implementation datasheet or program that can read what MIDI data each fader/button sends. PPJoy to create the virtual joystick port that the game (or other program) can then see and utilise. GlovePIE to capture the control surface movements and button presses of the device (Nano Kontrol in this case). To convert a MIDI device into a joystick/gamepad you will need two, maybe three programs. ![]() When I had the idea to use a midi device as an in-game controller I looked everywhere for the advice I needed to make the link-up without success.Ĭut a long story short here's the solution i came up with after some cogitation and moderate expleting. However, the reverse process seems to have been somewhat overlooked. There's no shortage on the web these days of scripts to convert joystick or gamepad movements/button presses into MIDI data in order to control sequencers and effects units etc. ![]() To put it simply most programs and games won't register a button press or fader/pot slide from this device without some software based jiggery-pokery. The problem is this is a MIDI device plugged into the computer via USB2 and as such produces MIDI control changes (cc#) which most programs bar audio software ignore. Use the inputs to control throttle and buttons to controll other portions. ![]() |
